 | SIVA – The Industrial Development Corporation of Norway is the governmental corporation and national instrument founded in 1968. SIVA aims to develop strong regional and local industrial clusters through ownership in infrastructure, investment and knowledge networks as well as innovation centres. The goal is improvement of national infrastructure for innovation. SIVA’s main objective is to contribute to the achievement of the Norwegian government's policy goals in remote areas, and within this framework contributes to unleash innovation capability and increase wealth creation in all parts of the country.
The enterprise is organized in main areas Real Estate, Innovation, Industry and International. Special tasks are organized separately. SIVA corporation has ownership in 150 companies in total. This includes subsidiary companies and attached companies.
SIVA has been engaged in many various innovative projects across the county. SIVA has developed, tested and benchmarked business methods and innovative concepts to be effective instruments to reach political goals on commercial principles. SIVA has the role of catalyst and investor to develop environments fostering sustainable innovation. SIVA harbours Europe's biggest innovative business promoting system with Reserach and Science parks, Business gardens, Business Incubators, Industry Incubators, Norwegian centres of Expertise, International Industrial parks and investment and venture comanies. This innovation system contains active impulses that continuously encourage innovation which leads to considerable results. There are approximately 200 new and future-oriented knowledge intensive companies per year. In addition, we are aware that a considerable number of companies are attached to these environments in order to take advantage of the benefits those industrial clusters represent.
SIVA’s role is to develop and spread the concepts, invest in local initiatives and build network and create meeting-places between its concepts and other participants. This innovative network serves as a major regional development engine.
SIVA actively cooperates with individuals, companies and local communities to develop attractive business environments and profitable business growth. This contributes to the development of sustainable local communities and regions throughout the country. SIVA builds networks between regional, national and international R&D (research and development) environments. Such networks are acknowledged to be of utmost importance for a country’s ability to innovate.
SIVA assists with expertise, network building and capital. By connecting different communities and organizations, experience and knowledge is shared effectively and important foundations for entrepreneurship, growth and development are created.
SIVA is co-owner in 80 innovation centres in Norway, and it functions as an exchange for sharing of industrial and innovative approaches.
SIVA has invested more than EUR 37 million in these innovation centres. Together with other participants more than EUR 98 million.
Those who participate are more than 1,000 stakeholders, including private investors, industrial corporations, universities and other important R&D institutions. This makes these centres important networking hubs for companies, investors and R&D environments.
